A victim's story - PETER
Every year in Kent elderly & vulnerable people are targets of doorstep criminals. Doorstep crime is a particularly cruel and devious fraud, which can see people lose their life savings, feel unsafe in their home and be left with poor quality work to their property. This video is based on an actual case and the impact it had on the victims concerned (names have been changed to protect the identity of the victims). Kent County Council launched its Trading Standards Checked scheme for businesses in the home repair and improvement sector. The scheme is designed to protect residents in the county from criminal and rogue traders - especially those vulnerable to doorstep callers. It also supports legitimate businesses by giving them trusted accreditation to show consumers that they are legitimate and trustworthy. Traders applying to be on the scheme are checked thoroughly.
